FOREST TECH/ FORESTER I
Outdoor Enthusiast Needed for Full-Time Forestry Position in Sparta, WI
Legacy Forest Management, LLC is looking to add an A-player to our team! Starting date is flexible but we’re ready to have the position filled as soon as possible.
The Position:
This position will report directly to the lead forester. Most work is located in southwest Wisconsin in the driftless area of the state. Mainly focused in LaCrosse, Monroe, Trempealeau, Buffalo, Jackson, Juneau, and Richland Counties.
- Perform forest inventory work for developing forest management plans and timber sales.
- Collect and analyze data using Forest Metrix software.
- Prepare maps using GIS software.
- Create and narrate forest stand prescriptions for development of forest management plans.
- Client and other stakeholder communications

- Provide forestry consulting services to private forest landowners in the Driftless region of Southwest Wisconsin. Our services include:
- Designing and implementing forest management plans;
- Establishing and coordinating timber sales;
- Consulting on best practices for harvesting, timber stand improvement and wildlife habitat management.

Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 1 summer forestry internship.
- Understanding or willingness to learn forest management systems and forest cover types of the Great Lakes region.
- 2 or 4-year degree in forest management or related field.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and on uneven, hilly terrain.
- Understanding of spreadsheets, GIS mapping, and be proficient in the use of a compass, increment borer, cruising prism and a biltmore stick.
- Valid driver’s license and suitable vehicle for off-road work.
- Detail-oriented and able to follow systems and processes (include “LFM-Forester-1-2024” in your email subject line when applying to prove your attention to detail)
