Heartland Forest Consulting, LLC is seeking a qualified candidate to fill several open positions of Field Forester. Starting date is as soon as possible. Most work is located in central Missouri, although some travel is required. No experience is necessary; however, experienced foresters are encouraged to apply.

Primary Responsibilities:

Under the direction and supervision of the Lead Forester, Field Forester will:

  • Conduct Forest Stand Improvement using various methods, including cut/girdle with a chainsaw, and “hack-and-squirt”.
  • Properly apply herbicides to control invasive exotic species.
  • Collect and analyze forest inventory data using forest inventory software.
  • Cruise and mark timber for harvest.
  • Prepare maps and analyze data using GIS software.
  • Write stand management prescriptions and develop forest management plans.
  • Work as part of a team to safely conduct prescribed burns.
  • Communicate with current clients.
  • Other general duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • 4-year or Bachelor’s degree program in Forestry or related Natural Resource field.
  • Ability to work outside in weather extremes.
  • Self-motivated and independent, but also able to work as part of a team.
  • Good communication and writing skills.

Qualifications and Skills Helpful but not Required:

  • Experience with operating a chainsaw in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Experience with GIS software.
  • Missouri Pesticide Applicator’s License, category 2.

Pay Range/Benefits:

  • Starting pay will be dependent on qualifications.

Work Schedule:

Position is considered full-time, approximately 40 hours per week, with some overtime hours possible depending on the time of year and current project workload, and the weather.
